Authorities in northeastern Minnesota apprehended a man on Tuesday, two weeks after he walked away from a work farm near Duluth.
The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office said it arrested 40-year-old Michael Todd Hart at a home in Cohasset — about 65 miles from the Northeast Regional Corrections Center, where Hart had escaped from on Sept. 23.
Authorities had a search warrant for the home and reportedly found Hart hiding under a basement stairwell.
Hart “refused to exit the stairwell. Pepper ball was deployed at Hart which led to him being placed into custody,” the sheriff’s office reported in a news release. “Hart remained uncooperative after being placed in handcuffs and assaulted deputies on scene.”
A 29-year-old woman was also taken into custody for allegedly aiding Hart. Charges are pending.
Hart had been serving a sentence after being convicted on charges including domestic assault and interfering with a peace officer.
