Brooklyn Center police say a 4-year-old is expected to recover after reportedly finding a gun in his home and accidentally shooting himself early Wednesday.

An adult in the home was arrested.

Police said officers were called to a report of a shooting at a home on the 4200 block of Winchester Lane at about 12:40 a.m.

“Upon arrival, officers located a semi-conscious victim, who was a young child, with a gunshot wound to his head, which appeared to be a grazing wound,” police said in a news release.

The child was taken to a hospital.

Others at the scene told police that the child had found the gun in the bedroom of a man who lives at the home. Officers recovered a firearm and arrested the man. Charges are pending.

The shooting happened just two days after another child was critically wounded in another accidental shooting in the Twin Cities. That incident happened early Monday in St. Paul.
