Economist: The impact of the US decision to impose tariffs on Iraq is small
Economic expert Abdul Rahman Al-Mashhadani confirmed on Thursday that the decision of the United States to impose tariffs and tariffs on goods will not significantly affect Iraq, and that the impact will be minimal
Al-Mashhadani explained to {Euphrates News} that “trade between Iraq and the United States depends mainly on oil, as Iraqi oil exports constitute between 85% and 90% of the volume of bilateral trade, and oil, its derivatives and gas are exempt from tariffs to be imposed by the United States.”
He pointed out that “tariffs are mainly imposed on goods and exports, and that Iraq does not have a large trade in basic commodities, as its exports do not exceed food and phosphate in small proportions.”
He stressed that “these goods do not constitute an important part of Iraqi trade, which is mainly concentrated in oil exports, which reach about 400,000 barrels per day.”
At the end of his statement, Al-Mashhadani stressed that “the impact of US tariffs on Iraq will be indirect and will not cause a significant impact on the Iraqi economy or the volume of its trade with the United States.”
