Minneapolis restaurant Diane’s Place has been named the 2025 Restaurant of the Year by Food & Wine magazine.

Chef Diane Moua opened the Hmong American restaurant in April 2024. In a statement accompanying news of the award, Moua said she is “humbled and honored to receive this recognition.”

“This award is a testament to the hard work of my entire team and our mission to share Hmong and Southeast Asian cuisine with everyone. It’s a tribute to the culture, community, and warmth we infuse into every dish,” Moua said.

Food & Wine magazine said it chose Diane’s Place from among hundreds of restaurants considered for the honor this year.

“Diane’s Place stood out for its exceptionally high level of service and hospitality, and for the way that Diane Moua and her team share Hmong foodways with their Minneapolis community through the menu and culture of the restaurant,” Hunter Lewis, editor in chief of Food & Wine, said in a statement.

The restaurant will be featured in the October issue of the magazine. The print edition won’t be on newsstands until later this month, but the online version was posted Tuesday.

Earlier this year, Moua was a finalist for the James Beard Award for Best Chef in the Midwest — just the latest in a long line of awards and acclaim she’s received.
