The Central Bank Governor sponsors a workshop on the strategy to increase bank lending.

Under the patronage of His Excellency the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, Mr. Ali Mohsen Al-Alaq, a workshop was launched on the Central Bank of Iraq's strategy to increase bank lending to the private sector in general and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in particular. In his opening remarks, His Excellency emphasized that the Central Bank's plan addresses the challenges facing private sector lending operations by increasing coordination with relevant authorities to achieve the desired growth in projects and credit provided by the banking sector.

He also emphasized the need to define a unified classification for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and call for the establishment of an administrative structure within government formations that is concerned with and supports these projects.

His Excellency the Governor thanked GIZ for its efforts to develop and support the lending strategy.
It is worth noting that the Central Bank of Iraq launched the National Strategy for Bank Lending in Iraq for the period 2024-2029 in May 2024, which was prepared in cooperation with the German Agency for Development Cooperation.
