Ruti stared wistfully at the pristine white gowns. She permitted herself to brush her fingers over their softness, to admire the variety in their designs, to hold them out in front of her and steal a glimpse in the mirror. One dress with lace dancing across the waist took her breath away. She held her breath, reached over, and took a glance at the price tag. Ruti felt a tear start to escape. She rushed out of the store.
Heartbroken. That's all 23-year-old Ruti felt two weeks ago as she walked home from her devastating incident at the gown gemach. If she couldn't even afford a gown, how could she possibly have a wedding?
Ruti comes from a challenging family situation- Her father died when she was young, and she was put into foster care most of her life. Now as a young adult, she scrapes by from month to month as a kindergarten teacher, but without enough financial support, Ruti's prospects of getting married and being able to set up an apartment with basic things, let alone have a gown to wear at her own wedding, have started to look dismal.
With the encouragement of her supportive chosson, Ruti recently made one courageous attempt to save her marriage: She created a crowdfunding page, where she's written a moving letter. Click here to be a link in the chain and make yourself part of something bigger, for donors will carry more than just the zechuyos of Ruti's children; They will carry the zechuyos all of her future descendants.
