Immigrant-run businesses play a significant role in Minnesota’s economy.

From trucking and construction to healthcare and retail, they create jobs and serve communities across the state.

But for many immigrant entrepreneurs right now, the path is uphill.

They find themselves navigating shifting tariffs, worker shortages and evolving immigration policies. And some say that Minnesota’s business climate can feel unwelcoming to those who arrive from elsewhere.

Coming up at 9 a.m. on Monday, MPR News guest host Chris Farrell talks with immigrant business owners about why they started their businesses, how they’re confronting new challenges and what immigrant entrepreneurs contribute to Minnesota.

And we want to hear from you, too.

Are you an immigrant business owner? How is it going? What questions do you have about starting a business?

Call us during the 9 a.m. hour at 651-227-6000 or 800-242-2828.

Guests:

  • Daniel Hernandez, also known as “Danny en Minnesota,” is an entrepreneur and owner of Colonial Market & Restaurant, which has locations in north and south Minneapolis.
