A man was injured by gunfire during a traffic stop in Bloomington Wednesday night, according to Bloomington police.
Bloomington Deputy Police Chief Kim Clauson said in a statement that police attempted to stop a driver who was going the wrong way around 10:30 p.m., near Old Shakopee Road and Killebrew Drive.
The man allegedly kept driving. Police said they used a “precision intervention technique,” or PIT maneuver, to stop the car.
Police said the driver refused to get out of the car, and officers fired “Pepperball” toward it. The man allegedly then fired a gun toward police and officers returned fire.
The man was taken into custody and brought to the hospital with an injured hand.
Clauson said Bloomington police body cameras were recording during the incident. No officers were injured.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the use-of-force incident.
