Law enforcement officers shot and wounded a man Tuesday night in central Minnesota.

It happened in the city of Monticello, about 40 miles northwest of the Twin Cities. The Wright County Sheriff’s Office said that shortly before 9 p.m., a 911 caller reported seeing a man carrying a large knife and yelling.

Deputies arrived and reportedly found a man with a knife walking on Golf Course Road, on the west side of Monticello. The sheriff’s office said the man ignored their commands to stop and drop the knife. Instead, he allegedly advanced toward deputies.

The sheriff’s office said deputies fired a Taser at the man, but he did not stop. Another deputy fired his gun and struck the man.

He was taken into custody and transported to North Memorial Health hospital in Robbinsdale, where he was reported in stable condition.

No deputies were injured. The sheriff’s office said they are on critical incident leave, which is standard procedure.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the incident. The deputies involved were wearing body cameras.
