A man was shot and wounded by law enforcement officers following a pursuit Wednesday evening in western Minnesota.
The Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office said the incident started at about 5:30 p.m., with a report of a domestic assault in neighboring Becker County. A man reportedly went into a home north of Detroit Lakes, assaulted someone and stole a gun.
The suspect was sighted in Detroit Lakes and reportedly fled from officers, crossed into Otter Tail County and pulled into a rest area along U.S. Highway 10 in Frazee.
At some point after that, an officer shot and wounded the man. The sheriff's office did not provide any additional information on the encounter, or what prompted the use of force.
The wounded man was taken to a hospital in Detroit Lakes, then transferred to a hospital in Fargo. The man’s name was not released, and there was no update on his condition as of midday Thursday.
The Becker and Otter Tail county sheriff’s offices, Detroit Lakes police and the Minnesota State Patrol responded to the incident. No officers were injured.
The Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office said officers were wearing body cameras at the time. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is handling the investigation.
