After five years of serving Northeast Minneapolis, Stepchld restaurant has announced that it will be closing its doors on Aug. 24.
Stepchld is located at 24 University Ave. NE.
In an Instagram statement to patrons, the restaurant’s owner and chef, Kamal Mohamed, said that multiple issues led to the establishment’s closure.
“Running a small, full-service restaurant has always been a labor of love,” Mohamed said. “Unfortunately, a number of evolving factors have impacted our ability to operate our current 38-seat, full-service model sustainably for the long term.”
In an interview with the Minnesota Star Tribune, Mohamed said those factors included rising costs of food, labor and rent.
Mohamed’s other establishments, including cocktail bar WildChld and organic café Parcelle, are expected to remain open.
