Perfectly timed for the winter weather blowing in on Tuesday, the Minnesota Department of Transportation kicked off its annual Name a Snowplow contest.
It’s the agency’s sixth annual contest to name the beloved road-maintenance machines.
MnDOT asks Minnesotans to “submit witty, unique and Minnesota or winter-themed snowplow names.” Submissions will be accepted through noon on Friday, Dec. 19, at the department’s website.
The rules for this year’s contest:
Each person may only submit one name.
Submissions are limited to no more than 30 characters (that includes letters and spaces).
No gosh darn vulgarity.
Please keep politics out of the snowplow contest.
Past winners will also will not be considered.
Once the submission period closes, MnDOT staff will pick finalists, and the public will vote on the winning names in January.
