A major outdoor industry trade show is moving its annual expo to Minneapolis, with opportunities for local nonprofits and businesses to exhibit.

Outdoor Retailer features a mix of big outdoor brands and startup companies. It’s been held in Salt Lake City for the last several years.

Event organizer and endurance athlete Sunny Stroeer said Minnesota’s big outdoor industry made it a good pick for the next show.

“Knowing how big of a part outdoor recreation is for the state economy, and what a thriving outdoor community you have out there, I personally can't wait to visit and to experience that in person,” Stroeer said.

Organizers plan to keep it in Minneapolis going forward.

Organizers say they’re also inviting local nonprofits to the event, including conservation and outdoor accessibility advocates.

Randolph Briley is the deputy director of outdoor recreation at Explore Minnesota, the state's tourism department. He said bringing the expo to Minneapolis will give the industry a boost locally.

“I can think of few things that would be more effective in growing Minnesota's outdoor recreation economy,” Briley said. “It's super exciting.”

It’s set for Aug. 19-21 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
